On Building in Public
Why I share my work before it's ready, and what I've learned from the discomfort.
There's something terrifying about sharing work before it's polished. Before it's ready. Before you've had time to explain away all the rough edges.
I used to wait until everything was perfect. I'd build in silence, iterate endlessly, and only ship when I felt completely confident. The problem? That day rarely came. Projects would languish in limbo, never seeing the light of day.
The Shift
Building in public changed everything. Not because it made the work easier, but because it made the discomfort productive. When you share early, you get feedback early. You learn what matters and what doesn't.
The vulnerability becomes a feature, not a bug. It signals authenticity. It invites collaboration. It forces you to articulate your thinking.
What I've Learned
- Imperfect and shipped beats perfect and hidden
- Feedback at 20% is more valuable than feedback at 90%
- Your audience cares about the journey, not just the destination
- Consistency matters more than quality in the early days
The discomfort never fully goes away. But that's okay. It means you're pushing yourself to grow.
